Hi ,

Sorry to bother you with another email, but I feel this is important for me and my field and I would love your support.

As a brief summary, they are trying to restrict the term 'nutritionist' to those who are Dieticians. That would mean that myself and other Registered Holistic Nutritionists would no longer be allowed to use the term.

Here are more details for you to read (I've also copied it below my name for you as well).

Please read and sign the petition on Change.org.

Thank you in advance!

WE NEED YOUR HELP...
Protect the Use of the Term “Holistic Nutritionist” in Ontario by Signing/Circulating CAHN-Pro Petition

Noting consumer confusion and potential for harm, an existing petition seeks to restrict the title of “nutritionist” to members of the College of Dietitians of Ontario and related professions. The Canadian Association of Holistic Nutrition Professionals (CAHN-Pro) seeks to clarify the scope of practice between regulated dietitians and holistic nutritionists, to outline existing self-regulation and to protect consumers’ right to access the health care professional of their choice. Holistic nutrition is an important part of natural health care and does not pose risk or harm.

CAHN-Pro has a two-step plan:

Step 1: CAHN-Pro has created a petition for our goals. Please circulate this petition and sign it – if you live in Ontario. Send it to friends, family and clients. We need to show strength and also show there is support for us amongst the public (voters). If you do not live in Ontario but know people there, please send it to them.

Step 2: CAHN-Pro will present a plan that we, as a profession, can take that will protect us and enshrine the term “holistic nutritionist” legally. They are getting all the details together with their lawyer and will send this out in the next month.

But we need the petition to do this.

If we succeed in Ontario, then a similar process can be used in B.C. where there is some talk of the same thing happening there. If we can stop it in these two provinces, then we have a model that can help other provinces. We may not be able to get back the word “nutritionist” in the provinces that have already lost the right to use it. However, we can help stop the harassment of members of our profession in those provinces and across Canada.

It is up to us to be the advocates for our profession. No one else is going to do it so please sign the petition, circulate it and don’t panic. There is a lot we can do and CAHN-Pro is determined to do it.
