Hi ,Ā
Ā
Over the last few years I've been seeing more people struggling with all kinds of issues (allergies included š). These may actually be linked to an imbalance in the omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in your diet.
Ā
What Are they and why They're Important
Omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids are essential, meaning our bodies can't make them. That means we need to get them from our food. Omega-6 comes from things like soybean, corn, canola, safflower, cottonseed, grapeseed, sunflower and other vegetable oil blends. Omega-3's are in things like fish,
flaxseeds, almonds and walnuts. Omega-3 helps control inflammation; whereas, excess omega-6 can fuel inflammation and cellular damage. Allergies are a sign of inflammation too!
Ā
The ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 should be close to 1:1, but scientists are finding 97% of peopleās ratios are out of whackāsometimes 20:1 or
higher!Ā
Ā
In other words, we are over exposed to omega-6 via cooking, salad dressings, sauces, chips, crackers, fast foods, baked goods, et cetera. I've also been hesitant to recommend the omega-3 supplements because I know most of them are rancid before you even buy them, leading to even more inflammation!! You see, omega-3 is naturally bound to polyphenols (compounds that protect cells from damage), but during
manufacturing, they are destroyed, making the oil very unstable. We're in a catch-22 situation!
Ā
Our overall health is only as strong as your cellular health
Ā
Every organ, every system in your bodyāfrom your brain to your immune systemāneeds your cells to
be functioning properly. If you donāt have enough omega-3 surrounding your cells, they become "stiff". Waste can't get out and nutrients can't get in - resulting in "constipated cells".
Ā
Here are 10 of the most common health conditions caused or worsened by poor cellular health due to this imbalance:
- Insulin Resistance &
Type 2 Diabetes
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Obesity
- Depression & Anxiety
- Skin Conditions (e.g., eczema, psoriasis, rashes, acne)
- Autoimmune Conditions
(e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, lupus)
- Alzheimerās Disease & Cognitive Decline
- Vision Problems (e.g., macular degeneration, dry eye)
- Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
- Fatty Liver Disease
(NAFLD)
Ā
You canāt fix what you donāt measure
So here's what you need to do:
- Determine your omega fatty acid levels (doctor's office can't test them).
- If you're already taking an omega supplement, it's a great way to confirm whether it's working.
- If you've never taken omegas, you'll get a great baseline.
- Once you know your ratio, we can work together on a personalized plan to restore balance, reduce inflammation, and improve your overall well-being.

- If your ratio is good,
keep doing what you're doing.Ā
- If your ratio is out of whack, please don't waste your money at the store by grabbing the first one you see - contact me first...remember, most omega-3 oils are rancid. I've found a few truly awesome ones that work well based on actual test results!
